Cayenne Desert Camp 2006

Porsche Centre Abu Dhabi hosted its second-ever Cayenne Desert Camp along with Porsche Middle East & Africa. For two exciting days on the 2nd and 3rd of March, Porsche sports car and Cayenne drivers as well as potential Cayenne drivers, watched the desert sands of Abu Dhabi transform into an educational, enlightening and exciting stage for all. Porsche’s team of experts blazed a path through the UAE’s shifting sands to the Cayenne Desert Camp with a remarkable 56 participants and their families each day.
“Words are not sufficient to explain the supreme abilities of this outstanding SUV until you experience it yourself. From that perspective, the ‘Cayenne Desert Camp’ helps us share the Cayenne off-road experience with all our Porsche aficionados and potential customers whom we would like to be part of this family. It is a truly unique Porsche adventure like no other. This event shows Ali and Sons’ commitment towards current and prospective Porsche customers. They will see for themselves that this car means business even in the harshest terrain without compromising any of Porsche’s renowned handling ability on-road” stated Mr.Wissam Khalil, Brand Manager of Porsche Centre Abu Dhabi.
Upon arrival at the Cayenne Desert Camp, drivers could test both their manoeuvrability skills on the obstacle course and then their adrenaline-thresholds dune bashing; while family members enjoyed their own desert adventures like sand-skiing, camel riding, and bouncing castle. Each driving course lasted one hour, and with a fleet of 10 Cayennes in the dune track and 3 Cayennes in the obstacle course, each participant was given the opportunity to drive.
In the obstacle course drivers put the Cayenne through its paces, testing its superior traction control, suspension, Porsche Stability Management system (PSM) and engine braking. Once through the obstacle course, drivers’ skills were put to the test once again, but this time on the slalom track where the Cayenne’s speed and agility proved to amaze even the most dedicated sports car enthusiasts.
While those on the obstacle course weaved in, out and around the desert, another team of beginner, intermediate and advanced drivers bashed their way through the desert dunes, enjoying suspenseful ascents, exhilarating descents and breathtaking panoramas. With professional instructors on the passenger seat, those climbing behind the wheel were able to experience the Cayenne’s magnificent handling in extreme conditions.
After two days of driving through the sun and sand, enjoying great food, making new friends and partaking in good old-fashioned family fun, one thing became certain to everyone involved: Porsche’s handling prowess on-road is complemented by a breathtaking off-road ability. This is the car that takes you anywhere, in Porsche style.
